Fourth Generation of Computers – Introduced in 1971, the fourth generation is characterized by microprocessors which made it possible to build a computer that fits on a desktop. The computers can also compute billions of calculations per second and are affordable to almost anyone. The ALTAIR is redited with being the first successful example of this new technology. The BASIC programming language that was created for this machine was developed by Bill Gates who created the Microsoft Company. The Apple II computer which could run software programs like VisiCalc; an electronic spreadsheet program, attracted businesses to utilizing computers more.In 1981, IBM released the personal computer and the device became a top seller which continues to evolve today. It is a Windows based PC.
Fifth Generation computers The term "fifth generation" was intended to convey the system as being a leap beyond existing machines. The fifth generation is a more updated, clean and easy to use. Fifth generation computing devices, based on artificial intelligence, are still in development, though there are some applications, such as voice recognition, that are being used today. The use of parallel processing and superconductors is helping to make artificial intelligence a reality. They are modified and updated with a clean and crisp look.
